Acts of Animal Cruelty Should Never be Promoted as Sound Advice

…Especially not by an attorney. The article, "Probation for man who put down neighbor's cat,  ended with a quote from the guilty defendant’s attorney, which was not only inappropriate, it suggested illegal activity to the public as an appropriate means of resolving a neighbor dispute. Intentionally killing a cat is never acceptable nor even legal behavior.

The State of New York should be proud to say that they have some of the most stringent animal anti-cruelty laws in the nation and the courts should use this law to protect the weakest members of society. It is disgraceful that a man, who trapped his neighbor’s friendly cat, falsified records to relinquish the cat to the shelter and then required the shelter to kill the cat, could walk free.
If you have a dispute with your neighbor or their pet, take it to a mediator who will help find a reasonable, legal, and amicable solution. Taking revenge will only lead to more problems and heartbreak.

I hope Coal, the cat killed when taken inappropriately to the shelter, will be an example of how our animal control system is broken and requires fixing for the protection of the entire community. When shelters kill healthy animals for little more reason than a request do to so, or the need of an empty cage, the shelter is no longer euthanizing, it is killing and it is unacceptable.
