Nassau County Meeting To Address Growing Feral Cat Population
On February 27th Nassau County legislators Diane Yatauro of Glen Cove and Denise Ford of Long called a public meeting for the to share information and points of view regarding how to best address this rising concern of increasing numbers of feral and stray cats so that measured could be taken to assure a successful program toward reducing their numbers. Local TNR organizations and
individuals, shelters, Veterinarians, as well as Health and Parks departments officials were all in attendance to take part in the meeting.
Both legislators, Ford and Yatauro have educated themselves on TNR and its effectiveness in reducing feral cat populations and both are pro TNR. The meeting served as a fact gathering and brain storming session with community activists for TNR on how to best address this situation and take effective steps toward implanting a program for Nassau County.
Dr Gay Senk, founder of the LICP was a keynote speaker as well as Joan Phillips of the Animal Lovers League and the Board of Health Director.
